Barnsley Air Cadets Become Cyber Specialists

To advance a stage further in the progressive training syllabus, myself and Cpl Thomas Yates have invested time into completing our Silver Cyber Badge and become Cyber Specialists. This has been a perfect way to spend the first few weeks of self-isolation whilst the squadron has suspended face-to-face activities.

In order to progress, the first step we took was taking an Open University course that was an introduction to cyber security. The knowledge presented through this course consisted of small topics breaking the bigger picture down to then consolidate in the final test. This part of the syllabus helped me to actively increase protection on my digital life such as network security and recognise threats.

In conjunction with this, the second part of the course required the completion of the iDEA – Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award. A course consisting of this content advanced my employability and enterprise skills by presenting aspects ranging from how to write a personal statement to utilising social media for business.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed these courses and have enhanced my awareness greatly since achieving the bronze cyber. These qualifications were a great amount of fun along with opening my eyes to personal development and in turn possible careers options.
