CI Brian Rogers

Wg Cdr R B Rogers RAFVR(T) Rtd. CI Rogers joined 148 (Barnsley) Sqn in 1949 as a cadet and progressed through the ranks finally becoming its Commanding Officer, a post he held for 19 years. He was then appointed to Wing Staff as Deputy OC Wing resulting in promotion to Wing Commander commanding the South Yorkshire Wing, a position he held for 9 years.

On retiring from 64 years uniformed service, he went back to 148 Sqn to instruct on syllabus subjects mainly propulsion and airframes plus aero modeling and aircraft recognition. In addition, he runs both Wing and Regional Recognition Competitions.

Highlights of his career include being chosen to represent the Corps at the Queens Jubilee Review of the Royal Air Force and taking 20 cadets for a 3 weeks tour of Canada. In his early years, he was a keen mountaineer climbing many major peaks in the Alps which stood him good stead to act as a DofE Gold Assessor, a role he carried out for 20 years.

In his civilian capacity, he was employed as a Design Engineer with British Steel working at the Stocksbridge and Tinsley Park works. His major hobby of bird watching has taken him through Europe, Mediterranean, Africa and China which supplements his other hobby of wild life and aviation photography.
