Inter-Squadron Cross Country Championships 2020

On the 12th of January 2020 148 Barnsley Squadron and other Squadrons from across South and West Yorkshire Wing attended the Annual Inter Sqn cross country championship.  We arrived at Thornes Park in Wakefield full of energy and ready to take on the different races. This year it was different to previous years because there were different lengths for the different age categories. An example would be that the junior girls ran 1500m and the senior girls ran 3500. Which is about 3k. Once we were all kitted out, we did a small warm up inside. This is because the weather was poor outside. It was bitterly cold and very windy, but we all battled through it and continued the races. The course was muddy, and it was like a huge mud slide in places. Cadets did slip around on the course, but laughed and carried on. After all the races were completed, we all formed up for final parade and the awards ceremony. Everyone who competed did really well especially in the mud and the cold. We were in the top 3 for the following:

1st – Youth Team

3rd – Senior Girls

3rd – Overall Males.

Individual Winners included;

1st Place Senior Girls – Cdt Fiddes F

1st Place Youths – Cdt Wright

2nd Place Youths – Cdt Rayner

1st Place Junior Girls – Cdt Moss

The squadron were proud to find out that we had 4 cadets go through to have the opportunity to represent wing on the 9th of February 2020. Well done to everyone who participated, and it was certainly worth it. You have done the squadron proud as well as yourselves. Thanks to the staff and Civilian Committee who supported us on the day.
