Activity First Aid Course

On the weekend commencing the 17th February cadets from 148 Barnsley Squadron engaged in some life-saving skills on various levels of First Aid Courses. One Cadet from the squadron attended a wing Activity First Aid course over the full weekend at wing headquarters in order to earn their silver first aid badge. Cadet Massarella came back to the squadron speaking highly of the course and saying: “It was an enjoyable experience for me and I felt as though I learned many new valuable skills. It was a new and enjoyable experience. As a newer cadet, I enjoyed meeting new people from around the wing and working together on tasks as part of a team. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity”.

As well as this fantastic experience some of the younger cadets at Barnsley squadron attended an Essential First Aid course ‘Blue Bage’ on Sunday the 18th of February. Cadets were all successful in learning, practising and applying their new life-saving skills. Cadets on the course were very engaged and when speaking to the group commented on a few things such as, ‘It was an enjoyable course that helped me gain confidence in life-saving skills’, ‘It inspired me to want to know more about first aid’ and ‘I now feel confident I could do my best to help someone in need’.

I would encourage all cadets to undertake a first-aid course and learn new skills. Congratulations to all the cadets who were successful in passing the assessed elements of the courses and having received their badges. Well done, a first aid qualification is an essential life skill and this is the first step for our cadets.
