RAF Valley Summer Camp 2024

On Friday 10th August 2024, 5 Cadets and 2 Staff members from 148 (Barnsley) Squadron along with many other cadets and staff from across South West Yorkshire Wing, embarked on an activity-packed, week-long camp at RAF Valley (Wales).

Throughout the camp, the staff worked very hard to get us multiple section visits such as; Fire Section, RAF Mountain Rescue, Air Traffic Control, 25 and 4 Sqn (Hawk T2), 72 Sqn (Texan T1), 202 Sqn (Juno and Jupiter HT1), RNLI and more. We also got a PT session which was run by one of the station PTI’s which was fun. We got lucky with the weather for the week as it was mostly clear skies and warm, perfect for watching the aircraft. We got to meet the Station Warrant Officer on the camp as well who retired from the RAF later in the year.

My favourite activity was when we visited 4 Sqn and got to fly the Hawk simulators, my close second has got to be the L98 shoot.

Overall, I really enjoyed the camp and I think it will be a hard one to beat, we made many friends on the camp with a whole load of memories to go with it. A big thank you to all the staff for making it happen.
